Information Sharing Event 28/10/05
On 28th October, Nottingham hosted a conference entitled 'Information Sharing: Establishing Best Practice'. It was well attended, with over 70 participants from across agencies being present. The conference was geared towards achieving 3 outcomes:
1. Improving the understanding of the legal framework surrounding what information can be shared, with whom and when
2. Improving the actual practice of information sharing through case studies addressed in the workshops
3. Establishing commitment to form a multi-agency steering group to design information sharing training for all future staff of the integrated children’s services.
The key speaker for the day was Chris Pounder, an expert on Data Protection from Pinsent Mason’s Law firm in London. Chris outlined the legal issues and then went on to describe several case law examples that gave a very illuminating insight into the rights and wrongs of information disclosure. There followed a lively and interesting question and answer session in which the audience brought out their own information sharing issues. The workshop sessions followed and the problem cases set were dealt with very well in light of what had gone before. In evaluating the conference through the evaluation forms 90% of participants agreed that their learning objectives had been met; 92% agreed they had a clearer idea of what information can be shared and 92% agreed that a multi-agency training course on information-sharing was vital. Case studies can be found below.
