Integrated Service Delivery, new ways of working togetherJoint Services for Young Children

The Joint Services for Young Children team, within Nottingham City Council’s Education Department, have responsibility for the roll-out of Sure Start Local Programmes, Children’s Centres and Extended Schools within Nottingham.

A consultation took place in mid-2005 to select areas and sites for a further round of seven new Children’s Centres, to be operational by March 2008. This would include converting the Sure Start Hyson Green/New Basford Local Programme into a designated Children’s Centre within the Hyson Green LIFT scheme, with the remaining six being based on primary school sites. The results from this consultation, as well as the Children’s Centres Strategy will be displayed on this site shortly.

Children’s Centres

Our Aim:

To deliver joined up services for families with young children through a network of Children’s Centres covering the whole City.

Sure Start Children’s Centres will provide part of the underpinning infrastructure for our programme of delivering high quality services to all children and their families, and contribute to improving the child outcomes set out in Every Child Matters: Being healthy; Staying safe; Enjoying & achieving; Making a positive contribution; Achieving economic well being.

The Children’s Centre programme is based on the concept that providing integrated education, care, family support and health services are key factors in determining good outcomes for children and their parents. The concept itself is not a new one. Children’s Centres are about building on existing good practice, rather than starting afresh. A significant number of families with young children already benefit from good quality integrated services through Sure Start Programmes. Children’s Centres enhance these services and extend the benefits to more families.
