Help with sexual health concerns, emergency contraception and STI testing.

If you or someone you know is worried about their sexual health there is plenty of help and support out there for you.

Nottingham City Council provides a range of services to promote good sexual health and well-being.

All services offer confidential advice and support and include:

  • Screening and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
  • HIV screening and onward referral for treatment
  • Contraception advice and provision including Long Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC)
  • Pregnancy testing
  • Emergency contraception

Contraceptive and sexual health advice is available from your doctor, NHS walk-in centre and from many pharmacists.

The Genitourinary (GU) Medicine building at City Hospital and Victoria Health Centre in the City Centre both offers advice and provision of all aspects of contraception and sexual health, pregnancy testing, emergency contraception, STI testing and treatment for some STIs, unplanned pregnancy counselling, referrals and specialist clinics. There are also more than 30 community clinics at health centres, schools, colleges and youth centres across Nottingham City. To book an appointment at any of the clinics call 0115 962 7627 between 8:30am and 7pm Monday to Friday.

The C-Card Scheme - offers a free and confidential service for young people aged 13 to 24 years living in Nottingham City. They give out condoms and advice in places such as GP practices, youth clubs, the NHS Walk-In Centre and pharmacies.

Don't Pass it on is an online service which provides free Chlamydia screening kits by post to residents of Nottingham City, including free return postage. Results are received through a chosen method and also offer a tracking service to track and collect results.

The Health Shop provides free, confidential service, offering advice and support on a wide range of issues regarding substance abuse and sexual health.

Emergency Contraception

Emergency contraception (also known as the morning after pill) can be taken up to 72 hours after unprotected sex to prevent pregnancy. It is available from doctor's surgeries, family planning clinics, NHS walk-in centres and from most pharmacists.

When family planning clinics are closed, you can get emergency contraception from the NHS walk-in centre. They are open every day including weekends and Bank Holidays between 7am and 9pm. Call them on 0115 883 8500, or visit them at
