Healthy Change is a new, innovative referral and support service for adults living in Nottingham who are at risk of developing heart disease. If you smoke, are overweight, physically inactive and/or have a poor diet, Healthy Change could help you to adopt a healthier lifestyle with:

Physical Activity on Referral Service offers a 12 week exercise and education programme to support you to become more active and make healthy lifestyle choices. The programme is free of charge and includes free access to the Nottinghamshire YMCA Active for Life Health and Fitness Centre on Shakespeare Street and various community classes around the city.

To access the service you have to be aged over 18 and have been diagnosed with or at risk of developing cardiovascular disease (such as smoking, being overweight, hypertension or diabetes). If you are aged over 18, contact Healthy Change Monday to Friday 8am until 8 pm on 0345 604 7352 if you want to find out more


Best Food Forward offer a programme of free short guided health walks around various open spaces in the city. These walks are free, everyone is welcome and they provide a great opportunity to improve your health, make new friends and have some fun. If you are out of work or looking for a job, Be Fit offers a fantastic opportunity to improve your fitness levels. As well as benefiting your health, being more physically active can make you feel better and less anxious, reduce reactions to stress and improve the quality of your sleep.

You can access the offer if you are a Nottingham City resident, over 18 and eligible to claim one of the following benefits:

The scheme offers FREE gym use, FREE fitness classes and FREE swimming* between 10am-12pm and 1pm- 3pm, Monday to Saturday, at the following three Nottingham City Council leisure centres:

Cycling for Health 

Cycling for Health is a service delivered by Ridewise offering a range of free cycle training sessions and organised group rides for people in Nottingham. Ridewise will help you to improve your confidence and skills to get cycling safely, either on or off the road from venues around the city. Cycling for Health provides regular weekly rides that are nice and easy, lasting between 45 - 60 minutes at a gentle pace along quiet roads and cycle paths. Rides are suitable for people who have a basic level of cycling and the rides are led by Cycling Instructors or experienced Ride Leaders but under 14s must be accompanied by an adult. If you don't have a bicycle, that's not a problem as we provide loan bikes free of charge for three months at a time (a refundable deposit is required). 

As well as this service, Ridewise provide schools cycle training, route advice, bike buddies and cycle maps. They also run a programme of leisure rides see www.ridewise.org.uk/rural-rides
