Typically, minor planning applications such as works to dwellinghouses, building conversions, adverts, shopfronts and works to trees are determined by officers under delegated authority. More complex (major) and/or controversial planning applications of more than local significance and interest are normally considered by the Development Control Committee. Approximately 90% of decisions on applications are delegated to officers, with approximately 1 in 10 applications being determined at Committee. This helps us to reach decisions on applications quickly, and meet nationally set performance targets.

The Committee meeting is held in the Council House, Market Square, Nottingham and normally starts at 2.30pm. On average, 20 planning applications are determined by Committee each month, but there can be as many as 30. The length of time Committee sits depends upon the number of items on the agenda, the complexity of the applications and the issues concerned. As a member of the public, an applicant, agent, developer or interested party, you are allowed to sit in at Committee but you are not allowed to make any verbal representation whilst Committee is in session.
