About the Safeguarding Children Board

Nottingham City Safeguarding Children Board (NCSCB) is the forum for agreeing how services, agencies, organisations and the community work together to safeguard children and improve their well-being.

Role of the NCSCB

The Local Safeguarding Children Board is the key statutory mechanism for agreeing how partner organisations in the local area will co-operate to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, and for ensuring the effectiveness of what they do. Section 13 of the Children Act 2004 required each local authority to establish a Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB).

The objectives of LSCBs, as set out in Section 14 of the Children Act 2004 are:

  • to co-ordinate what is done by each person or body represented on the Board for the purposes of and promoting the welfare of children in the area, and
  • to ensure the effectiveness of what is done by each such person or body for those purposes.

Board Membership

The Nottingham City Safeguarding Children Board is made up of different partner agencies. Please click here to see the list of Board members.

The Board has an independent Chair, Chris Cook, who was appointed in September 2015.

"We will ensure that safeguarding practice, strategic planning and commissioning across all partner agencies continuously improves as a result of NCSCB activity, with the aim of improving outcomes for children, young people and families."

Business Plan and Strategic Priorities for 2016 – 2018

The NCSCB has three overarching priorities which guide its work:

  • Promote, monitor, coordinate and evaluate multi-agency effectiveness in safeguarding children and young people across the child’s journey
  • Strengthen and support a competent and equipped workforce that is committed to learning and developing safeguarding practice with assurance that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility
  • Evidence the impact of NCSCB
