The Short Breaks Team support families with disabled children with a range of services. Families benefit from taking a break from the constant care they provide whilst their child gains confidence and new experiences.
Short Breaks are additional services that families with a disabled child or young person can access to:
- help children and young people enjoy new experiences and make new friends
- give parents and families a break from caring and time to recharge their batteries
Every child/young person is put at the centre of everything we do.
The Short Breaks Team have been awarded with a 'GOOD' rating in all areas of care by The Care Quality Commission. The full report is available on the Care Quality Commission website or in a downloadable format
Short Breaks Services
Contract Carers are approved foster carers who provide overnight short breaks for children and young people aged 0 to 19 years in their own homes or our renovated bungalow that is adapted for short breaks. Our carers sometimes provide support for up to two nights per month and can care for a number of children (one at a time).
Our carers sit with a child/young person aged between 0 and 18 in the family home whilst parents/carers have a short break.
Our Link Workers help disabled young people aged 5 to 18years access fun activities in their communities that they would not be able to without specialist one to one support. These include: clubs; sporting activities; get together with friends, group activities or family outings. Services can be accessed for short of long term periods.
Home care services
Practical support to families with children aged 0 to 18 such as getting their child ready for school or supporting with personal care needs.
The above services can be paid for through a Direct Payment Scheme. Direct Payments are 'cash' payments for young people and their families who are eligible for support and have chosen to arrange and pay for their own care and support services instead of receiving them directly from the local council. We offer services to support families with employment responsibilities.
Children and families who access our short breaks services say:
- They promote children's independence
- They provide new social opportunities
- Short Breaks involve children in the community
- Having a Short Break enables parents to spend quality time with their other children, so the whole family benefits
