Service objectives
As much as 80
per cent of all data sets held by an organisation incorporate a spatial reference. The Geographical
Information Services team provides resources, facilities and skills to support the capture, management,
analysis, dissemination and presentation of location-based information, using appropriate hardware and
software packages.
Geographical Information Services work in partnership with teams across
all Council departments, as well as numerous external organisations, with regard to information provision
and data sharing and analysis, to assist in policy formulation, action implementation and service delivery.

Services can facilitate and augment the work of our various partners and customers by providing services
in the following areas:
Cartography; 3-D computer modelling; Computer Aided Design (CAD); Geographical
Information Systems (GIS); GIS training; GIS user support; Mapping and data website development; Data
sharing platforms and facilitation; Data management; Location-based data capture; Collation and analysis
of multi-agency spatial data and information.
