Pupils from Bluecoat School in Wollaton are helping spruce up their local environment next week by litter picking in Wollaton Park.

On Tuesday July 1, around 75 pupils will visit the park from 9am to carry out a litter pick and learn about wildlife of the park. The group will be split into three and will litter pick around the park for about an hour and a half as well as participating in a safety talk.

Nottingham City Council’s Street Scene will provide litter pickers, gloves and bag and extra man power if needed. The pupils will only remove litter and not dead wood which provides an important habitat for beetles.

The park zoologist has offered to do two presentations for the pupils, one at 11.15 and another at 13.15.  Her presentation will consist of a slide show about the wildlife of the park and take place in the Willoughby Room on the first floor of Wollaton Hall.  

Cllr Katrina Bull, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Climate Change at Nottingham City Council, said: “Wollaton Park is an area that was highlighted as a hot spot as part of the Big Spring Clean campaign that ran throughout the City in the spring. During the campaign we encouraged local schools to get involved with their local area and we are delighted pupils at Bluecoat are helping us make a difference to one of Nottingham’s most popular tourist attractions.”
