Opening Times


Open daily* all year round 9am to 5pm/dusk (whichever is sooner) - entry gate closed one hour before closing time.


Open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays 12pm to 4pm. The house will be available for you to meander around at your leisure. Tours will be available for groups of 10 or more by pre-booking, please call us if you'd like to arrange a tour 01623 455900.

The house is available for special events, please get in touch to discuss your celebration.

Closures due to snow are possible, please contact us in the event of inclement weather.

Last paid admittance into the Abbey grounds is one hour before closing time, and last entrance to the shops, café is 30mins before closing time and last entry into the house is 1hour before closing time.

*except the last Friday in November.

Admission Prices

Newstead Abbey Gates

The charge for visitors is just £6 per car. This includes entry to the grounds and gardens at Newstead Abbey and covers all passengers within the car.

Entry to the House is available on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, 12pm to 4pm for an additional £7 per person and £5 for concessions (Under 16's and Over 65's)

Visitors entering the park and gardens on foot. motorcycle or by bicycle are charged £1 per person.

Gardens only visitors can still access the Cafe at the Abbey.

Season Tickets

Season tickets make an ideal present for regular visitors. Our season tickets are valid for 12 months from date of purchase and give unlimited admissions to the grounds and gardens all year round.*

Season tickets can be purchased from the main park entrance gate or in our house shop (see opening times above).

How to Get Here

By Car or Coach

Newstead Abbey is located 12 miles north of Nottingham on the A60 and is also close to Junction 27 of the M1. If coming from the M1, follow the signs for Sherwood Forest until you see the brown signs for the Abbey. The postcode for your sat nav is NG15 9HJ.

By Public Transport

The Trent Barton 'Pronto' bus service runs regularly from the Victoria Bus Station in Nottingham City Centre to Mansfield via Newstead Abbey Gates. Click here for the current Pronto timetable.

By rail, East Midlands Trains' Robin Hood line runs from Nottingham to Worksop via Newstead Village Station (the walk from the train station to Newstead Abbey is a approximately 20 minutes). Shop and Eat

Newstead Cafe Cafe at the Abbey is a stylish contemporary cafe located in the southwest wing of Newstead Abbey. The cafe serves a range of refreshments including home made soups, sandwiches and a range of hot and cold seasonal specials. Vegetarian options are always available and features a central courtyard area that is perfect for enjoying alfresco dining in the warmer weather.

The Newstead Abbey Shop is located just inside the entrance to Newstead Abbey House, and offers a wide selection of products and gifts for both children and adults. These include postcards, books, traditional sweets and crafts.

Information for Visitors with Disabilities

Due to the historic nature of Newstead Abbey there is no lift access to the upper floor of the House and access to the ground floor is limited. Wheelchair users and their accompanying carers are therefore entitled to tickets priced at the concessionary rate. Some external paths and walkways have deep gravel surfaces which may make wheelchair manoeuvres difficult.

The cafe is accessible for wheelchair users.

Facilities for users with disabilities include:

  • A wheelchair loan service
  • A disabled toilet
  • Disabled parking, including parking for wheelchair users on the south side of the House, along the drive past the cafe at the Abbey (Please contact the Grounds Patrol Office to gain access to the museum)
  • An audio guide for visitors with visual impairments
  • Seating throughout the House and Gardens

Information for Visitors with Children

Baby changing facilities are available in the courtyard toilets near the cafe.

Visitors using pushchairs should note that due to the historic nature of Newstead Abbey there is no lift access to the upper floor of the House, and the ground floor also contains several small steps/flights of stairs.

Information for Visitors with Dogs

Dogs may be walked in the Grounds, but should be kept on a lead at all times.
