The Electoral Register

The Register of Electors is a list of all the people who are eligible to vote.

A revised register is compiled and is usually published each year on the 1st December. The register is then updated on the first working day of each month from January to September.

The Difference Between the Full and Open Register and Who Has Access to it

There are two versions of the Register of Electors - the full register and the open register.

The full version has all the names and addresses of those people who have registered and it has restricted access and can only be used for specific purposes, such as electoral purposes, law enforcement and credit referencing.

The open register, however, is on general sale and can be used for any purpose.

Whilst your details must be included on the full register, you do not have to be included on the open register if you do not wish to. When you register just tick the box to say you wish to opt out and your details will not be listed on the open register.
