Every household in Nottingham is being sent a Household Enquiry Form (HEF) at the beginning of August 2016.
What is the HEF and why have I received one?
The HEF tells you who is currently listed on the Electoral Register for your address. You need to confirm or update the details by responding to the form.
Why do I have respond to this form?
Responding to the HEF is a legal requirement as the ERO needs this information to be able to publish a complete and accurate register on 1 December each year.
If you don’t respond to the HEF you could be fined up to £1,000.
How do I respond to the form?
You can respond to the form by using one of the following options:-
- Visiting www.householdresponse.com/Nottingham
- Calling Electoral Services on 0115 8764111
- Returning the form by post
In addition to this if you have no changes to make you can also respond by:-
- Calling 0800 197 9871 (automated service)
- Texting NOCHANGE followed by your security code to 80212
You will need to enter your security codes (provided on your HEF) when responding online or by phone.
When do I need to respond by?
Responding is quick and easy and you should do this as soon as possible. If you don’t respond early you will receive reminders or a personal visit from a canvasser.
What happens next?
If you have confirmed that the details on your HEF are correct then you don’t have to do anything further. If you have added any new names to your form then these people will receive an additional form called an Invitation to Register (ITR) which they will need to complete by providing their date of birth and national insurance number.
By completing the Invitation to Register they will:
- be able to vote
- improve their credit rating
- ensure that they have access to council services
- avoid a fine of £80
What if I’m a student living in Nottingham?
You must still respond to your HEF and ITR. As a student you can register at both your home and term time addresses. Registering in Nottingham not only enables you to vote here but also ensures your access to council services.
