Site Management

As a Site of Special Scientific Interest, Holme Pit needs careful and sensitive management.

The site is maintained by the Holme Pit Action Group under agreement with Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, with advice from Natural England..

The Aim of Management is to protect and enhance the special interest of the site for people and wildlife, by maintaining the balance between open water, reedbed and wet woodland communities.

Site Objectives:
  • Maintain and enhance water quality and promote regular monitoring of pollution levels
  • Maintain and enhance the present range of habitat diversity within the site and associated flora and fauna
  • Encourage community involvement
  • Maintain and enhance the populations of rare/local plants and animals
  • Repair and maintain boundary structures
  • Reduce the level of litter and vandalism on site
  • Encourage new programmes of monitoring, survey and research allied to the above objectives
  • Meet all legal and non-legal obligations
