Welcome to Holme Pit Pond Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI)
Holme Pit is a small but interesting place on the edge of Clifton with History stretching back over 200 years and connections to the Clifton Hall which still stands on the nearby escarpment.
Today
Holme Pit remains a beautiful area to enjoy a relaxing stroll, fish or learn more about the Trent Valley and its wetlands.
Holme Pit SSSI is a deep pond surrounded by reed-swamp, wet grassland and willow carr vegetation lying on the edge of the Trent floodplain below the escarpment of Clifton Wood. Its main biological importance is for the diversity of its reed-swamp and neutral marsh communities (English Nature 1998) which provide a home for birds, fish, mammals and insects and other invertebrates.
Location
Holme Pit is accessed from the Trent Valley Way path, via Clifton Woods Local Nature Reserve.
