Education & Activities

The different habitats that can be found at Holme Pit and nearby in Clifton Woods make the site a perfect base for learning about the environment.

There is great opportunity for everyone to explore and find out new things about the plants and animals that they find there, but don't forget that a local Nature Reserve is an outdoor classroom and there are activities that cut across all subject areas.

If you are stuck for ideas for how to make sure that your students or even your family get the most from the outdoors, follow the links below for activity ideas. Some of the projects are specific to Holme Pit. However, most are suitable to use in other green spaces such as the school grounds or even your garden pond.

There are activity ideas for younger children, encouraging them to explore the nature reserve.

There is also scope for older students to look at the site in detail and carry out scientific investigations such as soil or water sampling.

If you are a teacher wishing to make use of Holme Pit as an educational resource, please contact us to arrange a visit.
