Welcome to Nottingham!
It is time for everyone in Nottingham to welcome our student community, every year there is such a buzz when our new intake arrive and second, third years and fourth years return. You are very important to us we want you to enjoy your time in the City we are so proud of.
We set up this site as part of our Crime Prevention Campaign which we have delivered for the past nine years. Nottingham is a vibrant city and we realise this may be the first time many of you have lived away from home or in a shared house in the community.
In the first few weeks you will be busy finding your way around and making new friends and we want you to leave at the end of your course with good memories of your stay here. There are a few simple steps you can take which will help you to stay safe during your time in Nottingham and this website will guide you through them.
Have a look around and please revisit us in the next few weeks as we have some exciting changes, a whole new look which is more interactive!
Let's talk crime; we're proud that Nottingham is seeing year on year reductions in crime, particularly crimes which tend to affect students, like burglary. We work hard to give you the latest on crime prevention however; be vigilant, protect yourself and your valuables!
One of the best ways to deter burglars is by using SmartWater, a property marking liquid which has been used in Nottingham since 2001. You can learn more by clicking on the SmartWater page, and whilst you're there, don't forget to check out the quick way to make your valuables less appealing to burglars by registering them on www.immobilise.com.
Smartwater is available FREE to students in halls ask your hall manager, it will only take a few minutes to mark your lap tops, iPods and anything else of value to you. If you are living off-campus in shared accommodation within the city area give us a call and we will deliver it to you just call the Burglary Reduction team on 0115 915 3701 or email us at smartwater@nottinghamcity.gov.uk.
The easily-done campaign is backed by Nottinghamshire Police, University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University and Nottingham Crime and Drugs Partnership.
Have fun and be safe!
