Street Lighting PFI Project

Nottingham City Council has secured a multi-million pound Private Finance Initiative (PFI) which will see most lighting columns in the city replaced or upgraded over a 5 year period between 2010 and 2015 providing residents with better lighting for a safer city.

The Street Lighting PFI Project seeks to address these ambitions by delivering a sustained level of investment and high standard of lighting provision throughout the city. To support the investment needed, the Council has been allocated PFI credit support of £44.6 million from the Department for Transport. This Government support has allowed a fast-track programme of improvements to be carried out and the contractors (SSE) are approximately half way through a five year installation programme which has already seen them do some work across all the wards in the City.
